XBIZ and AVN Best Actor/Actress Nominees

Steven St. Croix and Remy LaCroix secure Best Acting nominations at BOTH XBIZ and AVN this year for TORN. I couldn’t be prouder of my two beautiful, wonderful, talented friends.

Anthony Rosano secured a Best Actor nom for The Friend Zone from BOTH AVN and XBIZ and Riley Reid received her first Best Actress nomination from XBIZ for her role in The Friend Zone. Yay, to two delightfully wonderful people.

The Incomparable Natasha Nice

Nominated for Best Actress (two years in a row) at AVN, Natasha is worthy of all praise and then some.

One of my favorite people in the biz, and one of the most stand-up people you’ll ever meet – Natasha is my Unsung Starlet this year. More people need to be standing from the rooftops singing her praise. The girl is wicked smart with she gives one hell of a sex scene. I bow down to her awesomeness.

Why Eddie Powell is the Director of the Year

image

Eddie Powell has a lot to be proud of this year. Earning two Director of the Year – Body of Work nominations from XBIZ and AVN and an additional 68 for his films (which range from all-sex to features), proves that his talents span beyond just one particular style of filmmaking. While many directors have made careers mastering one particular genre, Powell has effortlessly succeeded at several.

Many would say I’m biased, because I work so closely with Eddie, but all evidence points to support my theory. This in no way is underestimating the talents of so many gifted directors out there, it is simply addressing the fact that Eddie has – and continues to -direct excellent, critically acclaimed films in all genres.

Humble to a fault, he stays out of the spotlight – graciously accepting praise when it’s given, but not chasing it down in some vain attempt at self validation.

His work stands on it’s own. Critics praise it. AVN and XBIZ have recognized it. But above and beyond that, he is loved and respected by so many that work with him. He has a gentleness to his spirit and it’s no wonder that people welcome any opportunity to work with him.

When asked what he thought of all of his award nominations this year, he said, “To put it simply, I love what I do and the opportunity I’ve been given to grow creatively because of it. When respected industry professionals recognize the films I’ve worked on, it is important to remember that filmmaking is a collaborative effort and the cast and crew for all of the nominated films this year deserve equal recognition. Thank you to both AVN and XBIZ for everything. Picking among the years’ best cannot be an easy task, considering how many great films released this year.”

With Boz, the star of The Romance Series’ film Lost and Found

Eddie’s work came front and center last year when he took over as the main director for The Romance Series for New Sensations and catapulted the series to a level of success nobody fully anticipated. It comes as no surprise that he also was honored as Director of the Year by both XCRITIC and the Orgasmik Awards that same year, and his critically acclaimed film, Lost and Found was one of only three pornographic films in the world to be screened in Germany at the Berlin Porn Film Festival.

Powell never stops learning. He works as a cinematographer, photographer, and often even an editor and graphic artist for many of the films he shoots.

With a versatile palate of critically acclaimed films to his credit, Powell’s most notable projects this year include the critically acclaimed films, Torn, The Innocence of Youth, Meet Bonnie, and The Friend Zone.

Whether or not Powell is recognized for his talents this year – next year – or in the years to come, his talents have never been underestimated by me or anyone who has had the very sincere pleasure of working with him. He is one of a kind and truly a silent force to be reckoned with.

Our Responsibility in Measure B

DECEMBER 17, 2012FOR SERIOUS TIMES

“WHO ARE WE?”- SERIOUS QUESTIONS

By: Steven St. Croix

Larry FlyntAs most of you in the industry are aware, on Nov 6th 2012, the law known as Measure B was passed in Los Angeles County by a 55-44 percent vote.

After some months of many realizing that this was a serious issue, the momentum that the No on B supporters created in getting the public, media and businesses aware of this ridiculous law seemed to evaporate into thin air after the vote.

In a following summit meeting at the Sofitel in Beverly Hills sponsered by XBIZ, we sat there and took our bitter medicine. We learned what had happened and why. FSC strategist for the No on B campaign James Lee explained to the crowd present what the numbers meant.

I’ll give you the three takeaways from his address…
